Geraldine “Gerry” M. Gottwald, 76

August 9, 1945 - June 24, 2022

Geraldine “Gerry” M. Gottwald, 76, of Lititz, PA, passed away at Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, June 24, 2022. Gerry shared 48 years of marriage with her husband Theodore “Ted” J. Gottwald before his passing in 2017.

Born in Abington, PA, Gerry was the daughter of the late Luther C. and Blanche Elizabeth (Heyse) Schwartz.

Gerry was a wonderful homemaker for her family, and she loved to spend time with them. She was always an active member of her church, first Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Moorestown, NJ, and then St. James Catholic Church in Lititz after she and Ted moved to Lancaster County in 2013.

Even after losing her eyesight in her mid-forties, she persevered. She led numerous church retreats and sang in the Moorestown Singers. She enjoyed Bible study and prayer group, and her extensive circle of friends. Gerry loved to swim and to exercise with her personal trainer. She often went hiking and traveling with Ted, and she traveled internationally with her friends. Gerry loved to sit in the sunshine, and read books on tape.

Gerry is survived by two daughters, Regina Gottwald of Lansdale, PA, and Maria Orrs, wife of Andrew of Lititz, PA, and one grandson, Alfred Orrs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 AM Thursday, July 7th at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Avenue, Lititz, PA 17543, with The Rev. Ryan M. Fischer as Celebrant. Viewings will take place on Wednesday, July 6th from 5 to 7 pm, with a Christian Prayer Service at 6:30 PM, and on Thursday, July 7th from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, both at the Spacht-Snyder Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 127 S. Broad Street, Lititz, PA 17543.

Gerry will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 9th at 10:30 AM in Witness Park, 419 Pierson Road, Lititz, PA 17543.

Condolences to the Family

July 06, 2022

I would like to offer my sincere sympathy to the Gottwald family, especially Regina and Maria. I met this wonderful woman through Gina first then later Maria, when I was at St. Joseph’s University.
She made me feel part of the extended family by welcoming me warmly at Thanksgiving dinner when I was a long way from my Florida home,  taking part in a beach trip for a day, or participating in long walks after dinner. I can go on but the memories are too many to name.
She was always so easy to talk to and sincerely wanted to know how I was doing. She asked about the adventures that I had. Most of the more treasured ones were with her daughters. She enjoyed talking about the family and the exploits.
The author and poet  Catherine Pulsifer said, “A mother’s treasure is her daughter.”
In this case,  Mrs. Gerry Gottwald was doubly blessed, for she had 2 daughters to carry on her legacy.  She will be missed and remembered.
With Love,   Sheila

Sad at the loss of my dear cousin. Prayers to Maria And Regina.

From the first time I met Gerry I knew that we would have a deeper connection than just teacher / student.  From the moment she asked me to guide her in the swimming pool at Bretheran Village to showing her around her new apartment this past spring Gerry was always eager to be independent.  During our sessions she would often share stories of her adventures with Ted as she knew that I also enjoy the great outdoor.  At one of our lastest sessions Gerry told me the story behind her keeping Ted’s hiking boots.  I’m sure the two of them are now hiking amongst the clouds together.
My deepest condolences,
Jennifer

I first met Gerry at the prayer group at Saint James Church I really liked her and her husband they’re wonderful people it was a great time with her I visited her here at the Brethren village and went and played my guitar for her and that was a really good visit that we had after that she took the stroke and things just started happening quickly for her I called her on the phone we talked many times prayed with her comforted her when I could. It was a privilege to have known her. And with all she went through I’m thankful she’s at peace now it was a rocky road for the past year. Blessings to her family and all those who loved her. Peace be with you all.

Dear Regina and Maria,  I was so sorry to learn of your mother’s passing, but rejoice that she is now seeing clearly in her heavenly home!  I enjoyed many visits with her at Brethren Village and was so inspired by her faith and positive attitude with the losses in her life. I look forward to meeting you both, after hearing how much she loved you both, along with her grandson Alfred.  With Prayers for your comfort, Dot Milliken Vision Corps Volunteer
