J. Kenneth Hersh, 86

J. Kenneth Hersh, 86, a former longtime resident of 235 Ruby St., died Wednesday at the Glen at Willow Valley after a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of the late Mildred C. Williams Hersh, who died in 2002.  They were married for 50 years.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John B. and Frances Westman Hersh.  He grew up on South Marshall Street, and graduated from Lancaster Boy’s High in 1937.

During WWII, he served in the Army as a technical sergeant in the medical detachment section of the 1447th service command unit, stationed at Fort Benning, GA.

He was a comptroller and treasurer at the former Raub Supply Co., where he worked for more than 30 years before his retirement in 1981.  He was a member of the National Association of Accountants.

He was a Sunday school teacher, usher and board member at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, and later was an active member and volunteer at Grace Community Church in Willow Street.

When his sons were young, he was a Cub Scout pack leader. He enjoyed all sports, and bowled in his church league for many years.  He was a member of the Parsormore golf group.  He enjoyed taking annual trips to the Outer Banks with his family and trips around the county with friends and family.

He is survived by a daughter, Carol, wife of John Dehne, of Andover, Mass; two sons, Robert, husband of Stacey Hersh, Arlington, VA; and James, husband of Cathy Hersh, of East Petersburg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He was the middle of seven children, and was the last surviving.  His sisters were Helen, Edna, Nancy, Kathryn, and Dorothy.  His brother was Paul.

The funeral service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home and Chapel Inc., 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Saturday at 11AM.  Interment in Riverview Burial Park.  Friends may attend the viewing at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11AM.  Contributions in Ken’s memory can be made to the Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., P.O.
