Charles Wayne Carey, 66

Charles Wayne Carey, “Chuck,” 66, of Elizabethtown, PA died Saturday, December 16, 2023 at the Milton Hershey Medical Center, and has gone home to be with his Lord and Savior and heavenly Father.

Born in Wilmington, DE, he was a son of the late Charles Bayard Carey and Lois Jane Heckman.

He graduated from Oxford Area High School, Oxford, PA, and Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA with dual B.A. in Classics and Religious Studies. He went on to teach Latin and coach high school sports, and later entered a career in sales. He was a member of both Calvary Church of Lancaster and Community Bible Church of Marietta.

In addition to his wife Jhonda (Buchko) Carey, he is survived by daughter Ty-Tiana Taylor-Buchko, son-in-law Kenneth Kilduff and grandson Anakin Kilduff of Lancaster, daughter Joy Carey of Philadelphia, PA, and daughter Virgina (Carey) Shiller and son-in-law Artem Shiller of Sterling, VA. He is also survived by sister Denise (Carey) Shivers and brother-in-law Steve Shivers of McDonough, GA, and brother John (Jack) Carey and sister-in-law Shayla (Zavaglia) Carey of Mohnton, PA, a brother-in-law Greg Buchko of Victor, ID, and a sister-in-law Melissa (Buchko) Emert and brother-in-law Thomas Emert of Annapolis, MD, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Chuck had many interests including love of children, cats and dogs, music, and sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He studied ancient history, Roman and modern history, and the Holy Bible. He attended several life groups and men’s groups at Community Bible Church prior to serious illness. Chuck was a beloved friend of many, and he will be sincerely missed.

Interment to be held privately and Celebration of Life Service to be held on Thursday January 4th at 11:00 am with meal to follow at Community Bible Church, Marietta, PA. In order to make a donation in Chuck’s honor in lieu of flowers, please offer in his memory to Calvary Church food pantry or Community Bible Church.

Denise, I learned of Chuck’s death second-hand and it is a shock to me. Several years ago, he shared with me that the two of you grew apart. I hope you reconciled that. My rhoughts and prayers are with all the family.
