Alice H. McComsey, 95

December 08, 2020

Alice H. McComsey, 95, passed to heaven to be with her Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, December 8, 2020. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Mary {Horst) Hartstein. She was the loving wife of the late Richard C. McComsey who died in 2010.

Alice graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1942. She went on to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse through Lankenau School of Nursing in 1945. Alice became the Director of Nurses at Osteopathic Hospital, Lancaster.

A life-long member of Pearl Street United Methodist Church, Lancaster, she was very active in many leadership positions and especially enjoyed teaching both adult and children’s Sunday school classes. Alice also served as the Vice President of the Penn Laurel Council of the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed spending time camping, gardening, and working craft projects. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and the company of her rescued dogs.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Kristine A. Frey, wife of Daniel, of Lancaster, a brother-in-law, Ralph Hoover, Lancaster and a sister-in-law, Levonne Hartstein, Willow Street. Alice was proud of the many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who survive her. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Hoover and brother, Robert Hartstein.

A Celebration of Alice’s life will be held in April of 2021 at a date to be announced around the time of her birthday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alice’s memory may be made to her beloved church, Pearl Street United Methodist, 133 Pearl St. Lancaster PA.17603.

Kris and Dan, SO many wonderful memories of the countless happy times my family spent with your mom, dad, and you(Kris). Not only were WE ‘church friends’, but my mom and Alice were, too, practically FOREVER.. Later on, we had that Girl Scout connection and I got to tag along on a few outings even though I was in a different troop. And even when we grew and married those guys of ours 🙂 we continued to be included in fun stuff whenever your mom was around. (My only experience ever camping and sleeping in a tent was with your family, Kris! And my dear hubby was generously included!) I will miss her deeply, and we are continuing to pray for you and Dan as you make this tough adjustment. Love you both, and we rejoice that Alice is HOME with her Lord and Savior.  DeLene and Steve

Kris, Your mom was my girl scout leader. We were sledding during a winter camping trip. At the bottom of the hill, your mom said she hurt her leg and couldn’t walk. We put her on a sled and pulled her up the hill. After  we got to the lodge, she stood up, thanked us for the ride and said “Congratulations girls, you’ve passed your first aid requirement”.   My thoughts and prayers are with you and Dan.

Kris, Dan, and all the critters.
Such a loss is so hard for us. But she gave us & everyone all she could while she was here. I will remember Aunt Alice as an extraordinary woman with such strength and hope. She is an inspiration to us all. Much like her love for rescued animals, she gave her love generously without expecting anything in return.
She was the most proud of you Kris. Any why not, you’re a chip off the old block.

Alice and Dick were both special people and great role models for our youth at Pearl St and in Lancaster. Alice kept an eye on me at Osteopathic Hospital and taught me to dip Easter eggs as a teenager. Alice always had a kind word- a very special lady! Kris and Dan my prayers are for God’s comfort and know you’re not alone!   Blessings- Keith
