Doris F. Carlson, 94

December 05, 2023

Doris F. Carlson, 94, of Willow Street passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Raymond and Anne Fiscus. Doris pursued education at Boston University, where she earned an associate degree.

A loving and proud mother of four, Doris instilled in her children a passion for life and a sense of adventure. She was especially proud of her work in the research and development department at Armstrong, where she made significant contributions, earning her name on patents.

Doris was an avid sailor, she spent countless joyful hours navigating the waters of the Chesapeake. Doris not only found solace on the sea but also passed on her love for sailing to her children, who continue to enjoy this shared passion. She also loved to travel and explored far-off places including China, Europe, Greece, The Galapagos islands, Figi and Africa. She made it a point to take each of her children on international adventures, creating cherished memories that endure to this day.

Doris was a vibrant and fun-loving individual who embraced life with enthusiasm, she learned to scuba in her 50’s and continued into her 80s. Her nickname, “Indiana Doris,” reflected her adventurous nature and willingness to embark on new and exciting experiences.

Doris is survived by her loving children: Dell Dimmerling (wife of Michael), Matthew Carlson (husband of Barbara), Linnea Weaver (wife of Buck), and Leslie Cooley (partner of Gene). She is also remembered fondly by her grandchildren: Evan Dimmerling (husband of Tammy), Tom Dimmerling (fiancé of Jessica), Casey Weaver Kiley (wife of K.C), and Jessica Weaver (wife Joe McCann) along with her great-grandchild, James.

Doris will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation at cbf.org,

Nea, Matt, and Family,  My sincere condolences to all of you for the loss of your mother. Nea, I remember her friendly greeting whenever I would pick you up to play tennis. or drop you guys off from school. I know the feeling of losing a loved one at Christmas time. Remembering them as they enjoyed the holidays eases the pain.  Sincerely Jim Berger

Dear Matt and Barb, So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Never having met her, she certainly sounded like she lived life to the fullest and passed this on to her children and their families. We are sad to hear that our good friend has passed. I had the pleasure of working with Doris at Armstrong. We also shared a passion for sailing with her. But I also had the pleasure of being her first scuba diving buddy on a trip to Bonaire after she completed her diving certification with my wife Kathy who was her diving instructor. She also joined us for the scuba diving trip to Fiji. Her adventurous spirit, which we got to experience first hand, will be missed but not forgotten. Our sincerest condolences to Doris’ family and friends.
Kathy & Jim Jackson
