Karl Bruce Himmelberger, 73

December 01, 2023

Karl Bruce “Bert” Himmelberger, 73, of Millersville, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023. Born in Pottsville, PA he was the son of the late Harry and Anna Himmelberger.

Bert graduated from Hempfield High School and later received a bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall college. He was also a proud veteran of the US National Guard. Bert retired 1/1/2006 from Armstrong, Building Products division, as Principal Scientist. Prior to that he lived in Shanghai, China as Technology Manager for Armstrong Building Products, which provided him the opportunity to explore the world with his job. He also enjoyed skiing, racing sailboats, and was quite the wine enthusiast. He was a member of the Lancaster Ski Club and got together once a week with a group of friends to go out to eat and socialize. Most of all, Bert enjoyed spending time with his family.

Bert is survived by his 3 brothers: David (Louise Erricson), John (Peggy), and Tim (Melanie) Himmelberger, and 8 nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 1-2 PM on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. A service will begin at 2 PM. Dear John and Family,
I am sorry at the passing of your brother Bert. At Hempfield he was in our Key Club and was a very wonderful person. He really liked people and was always willing to help with our Key Club projects. I hope you and your family are doing well. I really enjoyed knowing Bert and your whole family.
Sincerely,
Charlie Roehm

I was saddened to learn that Bert has passed over the bar. I sailed with Bert on races up and down the east coast including a couple of Newport to Bermuda races. He was a great shipmate; quiet strength, positive vibe, always ready.
Fair winds!

I worked with Bert for several years in Building Products at the Armstrong Technical Center. He was an unusual person with a variety of interests, competent but also easygoing by nature. He transferred to another facility and I lost contact with him, but it sounds like he had a rewarding life. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

We are so fortunate to have had Bert in our life, as a great friend, a reliable bouy and ocean racing crew, a ski buddy, not to mention countless memorable adventures.  Thank you Bert for all you brought to so many and for all you gave to us.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Bert’s passing. I was a colleague and friend of Bert for over 30 years at armstrong. I fondly remember traveling and working with him around the world as we shared many an adventure or a meal. Bert’s varied experiences and interests provided for great times together. His in depth knowledge of the manufacturing processes made him a valuable member of the Armstrong worldwide technical group.  Always available with enthusiasm and energy Bert was a joy to work with.  He will be missed.

David, John and Tim, I was very sorry to see Bert’s obituary in the paper yesterday. As a very active guy, he died way too young. Having worked with Bert at Armstrong for a number of years, many of us could count on Bert for his expertise and guidance in solving problems and his willingness to take on challenges like his work in Shanghai. His friendship will be dearly missed.
