James A. Bernhardt, 76
July 14, 2019
James A. Bernhardt, 76, of Mountville, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his grandson, Riley, July 14, 2019. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Jessie (Baxter) Bernhardt. Jim was the loving husband of 53 years to Marie A. (Salamon) Bernhardt.
A veteran, he served in the US Army. He was very proud of his service as a Paratrooper. Jim worked in sales for pneumatic tools and fasteners for Senco. He was a greeter and part of a small group for many years at the Worship Center. He was Man-of-the-Year at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and was also on the school board for St. Leo’s School. Family was most important to Jim, and surrounded himself as much as he could with them. He coached his children’s sports and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities. His most cherished time spent with his family was their Cape May vacations every year.
In addition to his wife, Marie, Jim is survived by his children: Celeste Bush wife of Peter, Annette Moran wife of Ryan, and Gregory Bernhardt husband of Shannon (Wytovich); 8 grandchildren; and a brother, David Bernhardt, husband of June.
Jim was preceded in death by a grandson, Riley Bernhardt, and a brother, William Bernhardt.
Family and friends will be received from 10-11 AM with a Memorial Service to begin at 11 AM on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601. Our deepest condolences to you, Marie, and family for the passing of Jim.We have been so blessed to have Jim in our lives for the past 20 years. We think of all those memories of sharing time as a church group together. Going to Cape May in the summer, having fun as we played games together including the many golf outtings and exciting Blitz games. We thank God for the many special occasions and holidays we spent with Jim and family. We learned quite a bit from his knowledge of history and told him many times he would have been a great history professor. We will miss him greatly but know that He is in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ and with his precious grandson Riley. Love, Tony & Valerie Boffa

I’m so very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Jim would call me Kelvin when I worked summers at Phila. Optical. He was a joy to work with and helped me keep my sanity while grinding lenses. My sincerest condolences.

So many years have passed since I last saw Jim. I am Sheila d
aughter of Marie Bernhardt and Howard O’Neill. I remember Jim’s mother Jessie and I hope I am correct his dad Bill. I remember Jim from so many years ago when my family lived 5 houses away from the Bernhardt family. There were problems with his mom and dad and I always felt bad about that. But it seems that Jim went forward to make a good life for him and his family. He was a kind young man when I knew him and it is good to know that he had a good life and left you with happy memories. I remeber him as quiet and thoughtful. (his cousin Sheila ONeill Singer)

Memories of times with the Bernhardt family have been flooding my mind. It has been years since I left Lancaster to move to New Jersey, but I appreciate the times I have seen the family since I left the area.
Jim was a dear friend, silly, funny and always seeming to be cheerful. He has lived through so many health
issues these past years so now peace is upon him and hopefully with his family

So very sorry for your loss. Mike and I will never forget how quickly and happily Jim volunteered to drive one of the trucks out to Phoenix for us back in 2010. He kept my dad company, drove the majority of the way, and was fun to be around whenever we stopped. Jim was always smiling. May the Lord wrap all of you in his loving arms, and know that Jim is probably playing Blitz with everyone up in heaven. (and most likely winning!)
